WOUND, INJURE, HURT, and DAMAGE

Estes quatro verbos são usados nas formas descritas abaixo:

TO WOUND (wounded; wounded; wounding): usado para ferimentos causados por armas em guerras e lutas.

TO INJURE (-jured; -juring): usado para ferimentos causados em acidentes.

TO HURT (hurt; hurt; hurting): usado para qualquer ferimento no corpo, mas geralmente pequenos ferimentos. Obs: o verbo TO HURT também é usado com o sentido de 'machucar', 'ferir', mas em sentido figurado. Exemplos:

  1. It really hurts to be in love.

  2. Jane's words really hurt Mike's feelings.

TO DAMAGE (damaged; damaged; damaging): usado somente para objetos e não para pessoas.

Exemplos:

  1. Over a thousand troops were WOUNDED in the battle.

  2. Two cars collided head-on and the passengers were INJURED.

  3. The goalkeeper HURT his leg in the match.
